    Come to Bemis Hall on Monday, March 25, at 12:30 pm when Gerhard Sauermann, Ph.D., discusses “Radiation Exposure: Do We Have to Be Concerned About It?” Radiation surrounds us all the time and is part of many aspects of modern life, whether in the form of CT or PET scans, WiFi or cell towers, microwave ovens or airport security. Is all this radiation safe? Are some kinds safe and not others? Which ones can or should I protect myself from? Come get the answers to these and many other questions when physicist Gerhard Sauermann discusses everyday radiation and its effect on our lives. The COA provides beverages and dessert. The lectures last about an hour, including a question and answer period. Participants are welcome to stay after the program to continue their discussion. All ages welcome!

  2. Memory Café Opens for Elders with Dementia and Caregivers

    The Commons in Lincoln, Right-at-Home In Home Care and Assistance, and the Lincoln Council on Aging invite those with dementia and their family, friends, and caregivers to the free Lincoln Memory Café on Thursday, March 28 from 9:30 am to 11:00 am at The Commons in Lincoln, 1 Harvest Circle. The goal of the Café is to offer an opportunity for elders and their care partners to spend relaxing fun and social time together. The March Café will feature Jazz vocalist Wendee Glick. Steve Heck will accompany Wendee on the keyboard with songs from “The Great American Songbook.” Their show is entitled “Laugh, Learn, & Love the Music.” Steve Heck teaches music and has a room at the Berklee College of Music named after him!

  9. Fords, Flappers & Fitzgerald : the roaring 20's with Dr. Gary Hylander

    In the 1920’s, the sound of radios and phonographs filled the air. Motion pictures offered new vistas for millions of moviegoers. Prosperity was everywhere. Americans began their love affair with the automobile. Women “bobbed” their hair, danced the Charleston and voted for the first time. “Keep Cool with Coolidge” was the slogan of the times. Dr. Hylander returns to Lincoln having led a series on FDR's America last spring. He is a visiting professor at Framingham State University and Boston University School of Education. A frequent lecturer at library forums, historical societies and professional organizations. This lecture series is co-sponsored by the Friends of the Lincoln Public Library & The Friends of the Lincoln Council on Aging. All sessions are free and open to people of all ages! No registration required. Future dates in series : Jan 27, Feb. 10, 17, 24, 31 & Mar 31 all programs begin at 1:30 pm Come to any or all sessions.
