What’s new at the Lincoln Cultural Council
For calendar year 2010 the Council received $4000 from the Massachusetts Cultural Council.  When combined with unused funds from prior grant cycles the Council had approximately $5148 to award in grants. The Council received 19 grant proposals this year and funded 10 of them. The grants which were funded are listed below in the section titled "2010 events sponsored by the Lincoln Cultural Council"

For Calendar year 2009, nine of the projects we approved were successfully completed. These included events staged by or for the Lincoln Council on Aging (Delvena Theater), Codman Farm (Yankee Notions), DeCordova Museum (Art in the Park) among others.  Additionally many educational events at both the schools (Baba Brinkman) and in town (Pastel Painting and Photography Workshops) were conducted and help was given to special needs children in the form of a music enrichment educational program and in the form of assistance to groups at LSHRS to attend educational events (LS Chorus attendance at a Carnegie Hall Workshop and attendance by music students at a BSO open rehearsal). Also funded, in conjunction with the photography workshop, was an exhibit of photographic works by Lincoln residents of native Lincoln wildlife.

and Maybe You???

Join the Lincoln Cultural Council

  • Are you creative and/or self expressive?
  • Are you an Artist, Musician, Writer or other type of performer?
  • Or do you just enjoy the work of other creative individuals?
  • Would you like to help bring more cultural events to Lincoln, or promote and expand the creative community of our town?
If so then please consider becoming a member of the Lincoln Cultural Council. You do not need to be an artist, musician, writer, etc. to join. All you need is a desire to help. The council's main mission (see above) is to promote and support community events and individual artists’ endeavors. This is principally accomplished via the solicitation and review of proposals for grants to sponsor cultural activities in Lincoln. Such grants can include funding the work of artists, musicians, writers, etc. either directly, via sponsorship of performances, or indirectly via funding for classes, lectures or other activities which help encourage Lincoln residents to engage in creative activities.

Proposals are due in the fall of each year. After the proposal submission deadline, Lincoln Cultural Council members are provided with copies of the proposals to review. The Council then meets to discuss the grant proposals and select those which will be funded.

In addition to our main mission of reviewing grant proposals, each Council member is assigned the responsibility of being the contact person for one or more grantees. The Council members help the grantees to successfully complete the work, exhibit, event, etc. proposed in the grant. Since grantees may often be performers from outside Lincoln this usually in the form of providing local knowledge such as assisting in venue location and/or scheduling, or referral to appropriate contact persons within various groups in Lincoln or the town government. Council members also assist in the important task of verifying that the grantees properly publicize the event, especially with regard to ensuring that the Lincoln Cultural Council and Massachusetts Cultural Council are properly credited for their role in supporting the grantee. It is helpful, but not necessary, for the Council member to attend the grantee's event.

Finally, from time to time, the Council may also stage its own events. One such event is an exhibit of Lincoln artists in the main gallery of the Lincoln Library. Participation of Council members is key to making this event successful.

If you have additional questions or think you might be interested in joining the Lincoln Cultural Council please see the contacts section of this page.

Also please note that because the Lincoln Cultural Council is an official Council of the Town of Lincoln, membership on the Council is subject to the application to, and approval by, the Lincoln Board of Selectmen. If appointed, members should be willing to serve at least one three year term, be sworn in by the Lincoln Town Clerk and complete a short online basic training program at the Massachussets Cultural Council website.
