You can pay
your Real Estate and Excise tax bills online via e-bill.
The Treasurer is elected by the town’s voters annually
to receive and be the sole custodian of all town funds. The
Treasurer attempts to maximize investment income earned by
the Town Treasury and ensures the payment of the town’s
bills to its creditors and payroll checks to its employees.
The Treasurer also ensures the effective administration of
town and school system employee benefits programs and manages
all debt that has been authorized by vote of the Town Meeting.
The Collector is elected by the town’s voters every
two years to ensure the timely collection of outstanding bills
owed to the town. The Town Collector also ensures that all
tax and water bills are properly mailed to taxpayers and that
an accurate accounting of all bills owed to the town is kept;
and, when necessary, protects the interests of the town by
utilizing all means of enforcement in the collection of amounts
owed to the town

The Treasurer receives and takes charge
of all town funds, and pays over to the town’s creditors
and employees any bills or payroll checks which are approved
by the Board of Selectmen. The Treasurer
also invests funds in the Town Treasury to earn the highest
rate of return for investments allowable under the law. Also,
under the direction of the Board
of Commissioners of Trust Funds, the Treasurer is sole
custodian of and oversees the investment of the Town’s
trust funds. The Treasurer manages school and town employee
benefits and is the town’s liaison with the town’s
pension system, the Middlesex
Retirement System.
The Collector issues all tax bills for
Real Estate, Personal Property and Motor Vehicle Excise upon
receiving authorization from the Board of
Assessors, and issues bills for Water Usage upon receiving
authorization from the Board of Water
Commissioners. The Collector will also, when necessary,
enforce the collection of amounts owed to the town by taking
collection action allowable under the law.
