Hanscom AFB role to expand under
BRAC
The Department of Defense announced this morning that Hanscom
Air Force Base will be spared from closure under the most
recent round of cuts proposed by the Base Realignment and
Closure (BRAC) Commission. In light of 150 closures throughout
the nation, Hanscom's role will grow in importance and currently
projections suggest 1,100 new jobs could result in years to
come.
This information is preliminary and more specific details
will forthcoming in days to come.
Notice - posted April 12, 2005
A federal grant was obtained by the underlying towns and
HATS under the Base Realignment and Closure Act (BRAC). The
grant is intended to help residents understand the full array
of impacts and opportunities presented, and the federal process
involved, should there be a decision made in May 2005 to close
the Air Force Base. During the public meeting on March 24th,
2005, Sasaki Associates and their consulting team outlined
initial findings regarding community impacts, answered questions
about the BRAC process, and conducted the first workshop considering
reuse principles. This planning effort will conclude in May,
2005.
